Lucien de Pontivy is Myra Hope Eskridge’s persona in the SCA.
Lucien is a man* from the town of Pontivy, in the department of Morbihan in Brittany, France. The town is named for the bridge, the “Bridge of Ivy”, which spans the Blavet River. The bridge is notable for facilitating trade across the departments, and the Blavet for facilitating communication between the magical forest and the sea.
Maistre Lucien had the honor of serving Their Majesties of the East as Queen’s Bard from February of 2013 to March of 2014. At 12th Night in the Barony of Concordia, Lucien took a student named Drake Oranwood; there was much rejoicing. Lucien is closely associated with the household of Jehan du Lac, Past Baron of the Barony of Carolingia, and may often be seen (and heard) alongside a lovely English lady, engaged in singing, playing the harp, or performing other such services as the Kingdom requires.
In Breton language of the 13th Century, “Lucien of Pontivy” would have been spelled, “Lukian Pontivyen”. That is the name he uses at home.
* NB: Myra Hope is not a man, but is content to play one in the SCA.
